Deadlines for Form 1099-NEC Preparation Services

It’s almost time to start preparing for tax season! The first part of each year, we focus on preparing Forms 1099-NEC for businesses. This service is only needed if you own a business and have paid an independent contractor over $600 over the course of the year.

Please take note of the important dates coming up regarding this service:

  • November 1 – You will receive an email asking you to respond to a survey-style Organizer in TaxDome for 1099 preparation services this year. Response is REQUIRED by November 15, even if the answer is "No!"

  • November 15 – Response to the survey REQUIRED by this date. If you choose for us to prepare your 1099s, the proposal will be sent to you within a few moments.

  • November 30 – Your proposal MUST be signed by this date -- no exceptions. It will be removed if not signed and services will not be provided.

  • December 31 - You should have a W-9 on file for all of your 1099 recipients by this date.

  • January 10 – Deadline to submit the Excel spreadsheet of all needed 1099 recipients and amounts. If it has not been received by our office by January 10, we cannot guarantee timely filing of your 1099s.

  • January 24 – If you provided your Excel spreadsheet to us after January 10, you have until January 24 to request expedition of your 1099s for $150.

  • January 31 – This is the filing deadline to avoid penalties. Your 1099s will be prepared by this date if you have provided the information to us in a timely manner. Keep in mind that you will need to approve the 1099s prior to the final filing - this means you will need to be attentive to your TaxDome portal & email inbox for the approval request.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. Our office hours are 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday.

If you have questions, please reach out through your TaxDome portal or call our office.
