TaxDome Questionnaire Issue Solved!
What happened?
A couple of weeks ago, we sent out an email regarding an issue with the autosave feature in the “2023 Tax Questionnaire” within our TaxDome portal.
This issue seems to only affect clients who file their individual (1040) tax return with us. This weekend, a client reached out to us when they stumbled upon this issue and realized what was actually happening — they saved the day!
Here’s what we know now
Clients appear to be answering a few questions at a time or even completing all questions but waiting for their documents to arrive prior to submitting. When they go back into the questionnaire later, they are taken back to the first section.
See example image below:
Note how the prompt at the bottom below the highlighted text shows a green check mark to its left and the response is outlined in blue. When questions have been answered previously, it will also show more than one “step” in the bottom right (ex: Step 1/29).
See marked-up example image below:
These visual cues show that the prompt has been answered already. DO NOT click on the response once already answered!
If you deselect this response, you will notice that the “steps” will reset and when reselected, many sections will reappear but will not contain the responses you previously entered. This is because the first prompt is connected to most of the questions within.
What you should do next
DO NOT click on this response again if it already appears as seen above! Doing so will reset your work since it is connected to many sections and questions.
If you have not already suou have two options to continue forward:
Click the blue “Next” button to move through each section (seen in previous image above).
Select the section you’d like to work on from the “Go to section” drop-down menu in the top left corner.
See example image below of section drop-down menu:
Additional important notes
We suggest NOT using the “Pre-fill” option this year as it will also clear any previously answered questions. This feature is limited to only a few basic questions in the beginning anyway. Instead, you can speed things along is the “Compare answers” feature which allows you to copy and paste from previous questionnaires.
We also kindly ask that you DO NOT submit until you have either uploaded ALL (or a vast majority) of your tax documents or plan to mail/deliver them to our office.
Our apologies
We sincerely apologize again for the inconvenience this has caused for many of you – we know you likely spent a great deal of time answering questions many times over. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
Please contact us if you have any further questions or need assistance with this or any other matter.
