Tax Accountant

About the Role

As a mid-level Tax Accountant, you will play a crucial role in maintaining financial records and ensuring accurate tax filings for our diverse client base. You will be responsible for collecting necessary documentation, preparing individual and business tax returns, tax planning, compiling and preparing financial reports, and other related tax and financial activities. Given the nature of our company, some positions may involve additional or overlapping job functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately prepare and/or review federal, state, and local tax returns, estimated payments, and reports for business and individual clients, ensuring compliance with all legal requirements.

  • Create, plan, and execute effective tax strategies, providing solutions to complex tax issues or errors.

  • Identify legally compliant tax savings and make tax planning recommendations to clients; communicate with clients during the tax preparation process to discuss pertinent tax issues and final results.

  • Field and answer client questions regarding tax returns, financial statements, etc.

  • Work closely with clients to prepare and deliver timely and accurate financial and tax data.

  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow, and other reports.

  • Maintain client relationships through regular communication and feedback.

  • Efficiently manage a high-volume workload in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online is preferred; proficiency with Microsoft Office suite is required.

  • At least 3 years of individual and business tax preparation experience; solid knowledge of tax laws and regulations.

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize work.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on customer service and building relationships with clients.

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or another business-related field preferred.

  • CPA license or candidate preferred.

Employment Type: Exempt. Full Time/Permanent.

Working Conditions: This position is onsite at 1803 Research Blvd, Suite 103, Rockville, MD 20850. Work hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm (unless otherwise approved by Leadership), including lunch.

Physical Requirements: Office setting. Employee needs to be able to sit at a workstation for extended periods; use hand(s) to handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Position requires the ability to work on a desktop or laptop computer for extended periods of time, reading, reviewing/analyzing information, and providing recommendations, summaries, and/or reports in written format. Must be able to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing. Employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move moderate amounts of weight, typically less than 20 pounds. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
